How to Get a Codice Fiscale in Turin: Step-by-Step Guide for International Students

How to Get a Codice Fiscale in Turin: Step-by-Step Guide for International Students

Obtaining a Codice Fiscale (Italian Tax Code) is the single most important first step for any international student arriving in Turin. Without a Codice Fiscale, you cannot sign a house rental contract, open an Italian bank account, purchase an annual GTT student bus pass, get an Italian mobile SIM card, or complete your enrollment at Politecnico di Torino or the University of Turin.

What is a Codice Fiscale?

The Codice Fiscale is an alphanumeric code of 16 characters generated based on your full name, gender, date of birth, and country of birth. It is issued free of charge by the Agenzia delle Entrate (Italian Revenue Agency).

Required Documents Checklist

  • Valid Passport or EU National ID Card (Original + 2 printed photocopies of the photo page).
  • Valid Student Visa (for non-EU students) with entry stamp + photocopy of the visa page.
  • Proof of Student Status: Admission letter, enrollment certificate from Universitaly, UniTo, or PoliTo.
  • Completed Form AA4/8 (Domanda di attribuzione codice fiscale) available at the Agenzia delle Entrate office or downloadable online.
